Last night I decided to write up a practice routine for the next 10 days, these are the tasks that I know I should be doing to establish a good foundation to build on, but are also the ones that I have to force myself to do.
So I thought by posting here on Rhythmicguitar.com I would be accountable for sticking with my goals.
The exercises are to help me learn the fretboard and help build my awareness of the root note locations, I will also be practicing some timing exercises from Barrett’s Rhythmic Lead Guitar workbook.
To give you an insight as to what the must do’s for the next 10 days will be, they are…
- Exercise 1 – Complete one of the ten exercises on page 10 of the Guitar Fretboard Workbook, writing out the root shapes and playing them on the guitar.
- Exercise 2 – Each day, play and name out loud each of the notes on one of the strings starting with the 1st E string.
- Exercise 3 – Complete the Questions on page 16 of the Guitar Fretboard Workbook, (Pick random locations on the fretboard and figuring out what note they are).
- Exercise 4 – Practice track 4 on page 10 of Rhythmic Lead Guitar for 5 minutes.
I have estimated that completing everything here should take about twenty minutes each day, which should be very do-able. Below is a outlay of each of the tasks and check box for each day for the next ten days, after I have completed the exersises I will log in and mark them completed.
